Online Math Lesson - Multiplying with Pictures up to 5 x 5

Use this interactive math practice lesson to help your students visualize multiplication facts up to 5 x 5 with pictures. Each multiplication problem is presented with equal groups of objects to help students gain the foundations for basic multiplication skills. This second grade-level math lesson features multiplication questions in either a fill-in-the-blank or multiple-choice format.

Your students will be asked to solve a variety of multiplication problems in this online math game. For example, they may be asked: "Find the product for 3 groups of 3," or "Which number sentence could be used to find the number of counters in 5 groups of 4? 5 x 4 or 5 x 5?" Children may also be presented with a word problem like this one: "There are 4 hangers in the closet. Each hanger has 1 coat on it. How many coats are in the closet?" Whatever the type of multiplication problem shown, each one is accompanied by a picture.

If students need a little extra help solving a problem, they can click on the "Hint" button for a relevant pictorial clue. If students answer a question incorrectly, a detailed explanation page will show them exactly where they went wrong, so they can learn from their mistake. If students would like the question read aloud to them, they can click the speaker icon in the upper-left corner of the practice screen and the question will be read out loud in a clear voice. (This is always a helpful option for ESL/ELL students, or those who prefer auditory learning.)

Other features in this second grade math lesson (and all math lessons on I Know It) that help students make the most out of their math practice time include a progress-tracker that tells students how many questions they have left to answer in the lesson and a score tracker to show them how many questions they have answered correctly so far.
