Interactive Math Lesson - Weight Conversions with Standard Units

Your fifth grade students will practice converting weight measurements with standard units in this interactive math game from iKnowIt.com. Here are the math skills your students will work on as they go through the online math lesson:

  • Solve word problems involving the conversion of weight measurements using standard units.
  • Convert ounces to pounds. Convert pounds to ounces.
  • Convert tons to pounds. Convert pounds to tons.
  • Choose the symbol (greater than, less than, or equal to) that makes the number sentence true.
  • Complete the table of standard weight conversions.

Students will answer fill-in-the-blank questions and drag-and-drop questions throughout the math activity.

Lots of handy features are built into I Know It math lessons to help your students make the most out of each math practice session. Here are a few of them:

  • Hint Button – Students can click on the hint button when they get stuck on a math problem. The hint shows a written or pictorial clue that will prompt students with the first step or two needed to solve the math problem without giving away the answer. For example, "To convert from ounces to pounds, divide by 16," and so on.
  • Explanation Page – When students get an answer wrong, a detailed explanation page pops up on the practice screen. It shows them the right answer accompanied by an easy-to-understand explanation. The explanation page is designed to help students better understand the math topic they are practicing and learn from mistakes as they progress through the activity.
  • Progress-Tracker – Students can check out the progress-tracker in the upper-right corner of their practice screen to see how many questions they have answered so far out of the total number of questions in the math activity.
  • Score-Tracker – Students can take a look at the score-tracker beneath the progress-tracker to view how many points they have obtained for correct responses.
  • Read-Aloud Feature – Students can click on the speaker icon in the upper-left corner of the practice screen to hear the math question read out loud to them in a clear voice. This feature is a great resource for ESL/ELL students and children who are auditory processors.

All of these features have been thoughtfully designed to meet your students' learning needs as they work through their math lessons, including this fifth grade measurement activity
